Microsoft is expanding the list of partners who can use the Azure Machine Learning platform to support government agencies. The software giant today announced that the company has signed a contract with the U.S. Secret Service to train up to 200 employees in using machine learning to analyze data. The contract, which is for one year, is worth $1.25 million, and is the first commercial use of the AI platform. Microsoft trained its Azure Machine Learning platform to recognize President Barack Obama speaking in front of the National Mall in Washington, during his speech marking the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Civil Rights Act. Microsoft's AI platform can also train itself to recognize speech that had not been detected before on public platforms such as Azure Machine. Learnings. In May. 2014, where researchers trained it to recognize between 70 and 81 standard American speech sounds, Microsoft's platform learned an unknown soundtrack of 6,138 sounds. Machine learning is the process of mathematically calculating the probabilities associated with samples. This classification is then referred to the detected audio dataset. The announcement marks the second time in as many weeks that Microsoft has signed on with the U.S. Secret Service to train up employees for important surveillance work. In May, the company announced that the national security agency would integrate Azure Machine Learning into its National Threat Analytics Services. According to a company blog post, the partnership will begin in the beginning of 2018 and will utilize AI resources, job listings and training courses. The N.S.A. declined to comment for this story. Microsoft expands Office Lens support to enterprise desktops. Starting today, enterprise users of Microsoft Office Lens software can apply the feature to use the white alert icon when opening PDFs. The feature is only available in the Microsoft Office Lens apps for Windows and Mac, but will automatically roll out to Mac and Windows for the "a bit of time" on Tuesday. Microsoft originally announced the change in a blog post in early 2014, but had planned for it and tried to roll it out via an open beta. The feature was available in the Office Lens desktop apps only for "early access" and for users who could veto any edits made in an edit area. Microsoft originally planned to make the move to the desktop apps available later, but technical issues slowed it down. The desktop apps now appear to be the better bet, however iteration went through the process more carefully now than in 2014. Opening PDF files using the desktop apps will give PDF viewers on mobile mayies the ability to showup. He (or she) can also now see documents that have already been verified by e-verflow, rather than checking for signatures before making a digital purchase. Apple, along with the Secure Digital Alliance, a trade group for mobile signatures, helped develop Apple's native digital signatures API. Ars has more on the announcement. Microsoft is finally releasing Office Online, its full-featured Office suite for Android and iOS. Microsoft Office Online was previously available as an Early Preview for users who had the preview versions of Microsoft Office installed and running. That was before it was acquired by the company in 2013. The feature was originally scheduled for a major update scheduled for release in 2013, but was pushed back to 2012 to give Microsoft time to fine-tune the feature and to ensure that it wouldn't introduce security vulnerabilities. At the time, the update was the "Office Update Inventory 3," but was actually the "OU3 All In One" release. In July 2013, Microsoft released the beta of the new feature in the Office Online Help Center. At the time, there were still instructions for installing the full version of Office Online, but there was no reason to think the service would be any faster or more stable than before. Over the next five years, the version was updated periodically with stable updates. Then, in May 2016, Microsoft abruptly ended development of thefactory and abruptly ended support for the old beta of Office Online. The last time Microsoft officially released a software program along these lines, it was for the web version of the Windows Settings app in 2010. That program was discontinued as abruptly as Office Online was discontinued in 2013. Microsoft Office Online launched in 2008 and was a suite of office productivity and research software applications for the Windows desktop. It was discontinued in 2013, having broken almost every promise it had made Microsoft a leader in office productivity software. Over a five-year period, Microsoft Smartpoint can now analyze your movement and decision-making patterns to improve those aspects of the process that are most important to the manager. In 2007, a series of photos surfaced of government employees using Microsoft Office Word to create spreadsheets in public view on government computers. It was a violation, some thought, in which was committed the very same mistakes (if not more) that Microsoft was doing more than assisting government employees in their day-to-day work that the Office Online software was helping them to correct?
