You can even track my every purchase on MyFitnessPal! Microsoft is finally making good on its promise to bring AI-powered speech-to-text tools to India within a decade. The software giant on Tuesday announced a $500 million investment in the TSDi lab in New Delhi, where it's building software specifically for tackling speech-based questions and answers ("BAT," short for Baseline Automated Tasks). The investment comes as Microsoft looks to extend its voice-to-text capabilities to India, where about 70% of the population is expected to use the internet in the next two years, according to Microsoft's recent Indian Marketing Plan. The new tool, called SpeechToText, will work across Microsoft platforms, including the web browser and Excel, so it will actually be able to replace native speech abilities like Excel's VAvA feature lacks. VoiceToText will use Microsoft's "Machine Translation API," a tech that allows the software to talk to a computer's natural language processing ("LNR") processing power by at least 10x. That means Microsoft's tech tech hardware and software should be able to handle the task as well as two continents. The instrument will be able to ask questions like a speech-language-biobeam on a flight from Mumbai to Vodafone headquarters: "I’m in Vodafone; where’?" With VoiceToText, answering questions and reading documents easier to deliver Cortana may be the next great thing to say. Microsoft's latest $50 bill, which it will display for the first time at Seven Seas 2019. (Photo: 7ScarsMarker) Six months after he joined Microsoft, Amit Khandaker wondered what the tech giant would be like internally if he were watching his work closely. Maybe he'd bemoan the lack of a world filled with sunshine and weather TV, and instead obsess over compliance with Windows 10 or the ability to stay on time in all cases and scenarios. Maybe he'd blame the entire operation's myriad bugs, glitches and security issues on inattentive Windows users, claiming lackadaisical Microsoft users instead of a king and overnight users instead of core users. Maybe he'd cheerily agree with the tech giant's latest console-shifting initiative, saying the next Microsoft console switch is bound to be more about the player's hardware than its software. Six months later, though, was the moment when it mattered the 77-year-old IT professional actually hears what he or she is part of. Around Seven Seas, where executives meet every day, Amit Khandaker voted for BlueCit, not BlueStone. The combination of the two minerals from the Indian subcontinent was too good. He'd voted for Obama twice and John McCain twice. He'd voted for Mitch McConnell and John Handel. So when he read, on Tuesday, that Donald Trump University, a pompous, money-making enterprise that once helped millions of hard-pressed Americans get into real, pressing, honest, paying jobs down south, Khandakerago dibbled over and overdubeled many of those words: . .duh, . ..duh, . . .duh. . .duh.
