This new update makes it possible to see how a 3D object is created, where the camera lens came in front of the retouch surface, and more. The new version of the Trace Viewer also supports 3D object import, saving you a lot of time when working with 3D assets. The new version is available now for Windows, Mac, and Windows. 3D import workflows for the Trace Viewer are as follows. The user enters her or his model name, model material, and angle, shape, and dimensions, among other things, entered in one or more fields in the desktop application. Next, the user is asked to enter her or his programming skills by selecting out the various tasks that require the user to manually compute joint angles and dimensions. The user is done when the user's license key is shown, but the application will continue to record where the user's camera lens came in front of the surface retouch area, as well as where it went behind the lens. Autodesk Trace Viewer v5.0 brings new drawing capabilities to the app, with pen drawings, oil drawings, and marble drawings. While these types of drawings are not new to Autodesk software, this version brings them to a higher level than ever, allowing for more complex drawing flows. Drawing with the pen brings a realistic feeling to the drawing, and the light and shadow aspects of the drawing are accurately reproduced. It also allows the user to move the paper to face outwards or to outwards. This is particularly important for more detailed drawings where the designer or illustrator needs to maintain the design from one design to the next. Oil and marble drawings are more like drawing charts. The former show the user how to smoothly evenly distribute various types of oils and marble across surfaces, while the latter shows a detailed representation of the contributors of materials. This is particularly beneficial in the areas of steel, plastic, glass, and marble. Autodesk Trace Viewer fits very snugly into small palm-sized iPads, and the app has a handy dark or light slider that can be used to separate the cartography from non-retouching aspects of the assets. The app has three drawing modes, including the standard drawing, but there are also several utility buttons, including the drawing indicator, intermediate tool, drawing monitor, and drawing list. Autodesk's Trace Viewer shows an overlay of the selected area around the camera. Unlike some other apps that are too small to see, Trace Viewer allows the user to clearly see where to draw left or right as well as how far to lead the view. The app has some intriguing drawing indicators, including the drawing indicator for a circle, a straight line, a collapsible line, and a hyper-flat indicator. The drawing marker feature allows the user to indicate where to draw with a marker before the drawing can take place. Autodesk's software has always been a good at the transitions leading-up to a drawing. Now, when the camera captures a drawing, the camera follows the transition between the foreground and background quite well. The result is a drawing that is both more intuitive and also more accurate than a designer making tweaks all the way through the design. One area where the camera follow-ups stand out is in 3D content. Autodesk's software has never been known to automatically process 3D models, but Trace Viewer allows the designer to directly draw a model she or he is making or owning to a CAD program of the designer's choice. 3D models cannot be generated at the design stage, but the drawing manager, while trying to reconstruct a model from the model itself, has been trained to treat the drawing as though it were a model. This did not exist for some designers, who treated the 3D models as though they were the real deal. Now, when a model sketch is received, the model is often treated correctly, with proper rotations and z-buffered, and the designers were able to be more confident where to draw in 3D. While the app captures the model in a way that is extremely well done in every way, it also captures a 3D model that is almost too good. In order to get a picture of the 3D model quality, the model has to be in the native format of the program used, which has to be set correctly the correct format to be 3D, and the highest the model can get is a 256 color depth, level, and UV mapping must be satisfied. (This is accomplished by first defining the UV mapping as part of the drawing API call.)
